Introduction

Since the nineties, the Galway Islamic school has been in operation for several years. Although it has struggled through difficult times due to the lack of consistent availability of knowledgeable teachers and appropriate premises where children could be properly taught, and last but not least the budgetary constraints due to parental non-commitments to a sustained provision of funds for the financial viability of the school to afford its expenses incurred while teaching children. However, it has managed to exist and contribute some extremely useful form of Islamic teachings such as Quranic lessons, knowledge of Sunnah, Hadith and learning of Arabic language.

While writing these lines we would like to pay a special tribute to Sheikh Ilyas who was the first formal teacher for the children in Galway for holding Islamic teaching for a number of years in the mid-nineties and upon his departure, Sheikh Khalid Sallabi took up this very important role and has been since a key figure to carry out school activities.

 

The following is the Basic curriculum at the Galway Islamic School:

Basic Islamic Principles (Pillars of Islam) such as Shahada, Risaalah, Salaat, Saum, Zakat and Hajj.

Arabic language for adults :

 Arabic language classes can be organised per request or if a group of five or more become available to run the class.
